Coming up with cover features is partly about feeling out what's socially relevant. On the back of the Umbrella Revolution and talks about education reform, I felt that Hongkongers - were and still are - afraid their language and culture would be uprooted. In response to that fear, the cover feature, 'The Death of Cantonese?' was born to discuss the likelihood of that outcome. Other times cover features are chosen basically because they are cool, but not often talked about like 'Women in Martial Arts'. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung usually hog all the kudos, so I felt it was time to put the ladies in the forefront of the conversation because they too have contributed so much to martial arts cinema.
